February 4th brought the Aquarius New Moon at 15°45 of Aquarius,
but this degree also represents the cross quarter point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox.
In other words, we are half way to spring!
In ancient pagan earth-worshiping traditions, early February was a holdiay known as Imbolc, meaning "in the belly." Quite literally the Earth is pregnant with new life. The increasing sunlight signals to the Earth that it's time to wake up. This way, by the time the Spring Equinox arrives at the end of March, we are already seeing daffodils emerge. And if you look closely, some of the trees are already beginning to bud.
In our own lives, we are in Aquarius season, the strategic Air sign, which helps us strategize our next moves.

That's right, we are focused on the Dark Goddess archetype - the side of self that is untamed, primal, eccentric. The dark side of the Moon that is the creative, intuitive, sensual part of you...
It is her right to take up more space. It is her right to be heard.

In other news, February is a month of when we are thinking about LOVE.
"Venus, the planet of love, is in Capricorn for most of February, and during this time, “quality over quantity” will be our mantra. The planet’s sojourn through Capricorn will help us get our priorities in order within our relationships, so keep an eye on the most important practices that can yield long-term success. Yes, that’s right, those with Venus in Capricorn tend to be serial monogamists. And so will the rest of us this month."

All the Love to you,
Happy New Year!
2019 has been quick out of the gate, with Mars' entry into fiery Aries, a partial solar eclipse and Uranus' final station in Aries for the next 75+ years.
Please enjoy this video above. On December 2nd, 2018, I addressed LCAA's holiday banquet with predictions for YOUR SIGN in 2019. If you open the video in YouTube, the signs are timestamped in the description making it easy for you to jump ahead to both your SUN SIGN and your RISING SIGN.
(And if that's not enough, dip into the below articles for another look into 2019)
What does this image say to you?
It might say:
"Hi I'm daddy Zeus and I'm fertile AF."
The cornucopia is known as the "horn of plenty," and it's no coincidence that the devil wears horns. And well, there's still the word "horny," (you old devil you). Pan the ancient God of Fertility is half goat, half man. Much like the drunken, lustful Satyr, or hey, how about a Centaur?
This year, the Sun moves into Sagittarius on Thanksgiving Day. Sagittarius is represented by the image of a Centaur - half horse, half man. And to this day, one of the most iconic symbols of Thanksgiving is in fact the cornucopia.
Zeus is frequently depicted holding a cornucopia. In the image above, it almost stands erect from his groin as if referring to his notorious fertility. From the cornucopia overflows an abundance of fruits - something Zeus obviously did well after fathering half of the Greek pantheon.
Thanksgiving always falls on a Thursday, Jupiter's day. And it's always the 4th Thursday of the month, ensuring that it arrives during Sagittarius season. Jupiter is at home in Sagittarius, and together. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, growth, overdoing it and sometimes, gluttony. It's happiest in the sign of Sagittarius, which seeks distant horizons to discover, understand, experience and generously offer advice- aka, what they have found to be truth. One truth often attributed to Sagittarius? "Eat, drink and be merry!"
Sagittarius is one of the more celebratory signs, so it seems to be no coincidence that Thanksgiving is a holiday when we are encouraged to overeat, overstay and over-drink the night before. Oh and the thankfulness part? Jupiter is a planet of generosity. Praise the Gods! Look at the bounty we've been given!
GEmini Full Moon
Gemini is a DUAL SIGN. Like there are two hemispheres of the brain, there are always two sides to every story. Gemini is a sign of versatility, and as we know there are a multitude of facets/angles/perspectives our minds can perceive. Ruled by Mercury, the past informs the future. Our perception of reality is informed by our experiences and shapes who we are. Mercury is a trickster, and sometimes the mind plays tricks on us. It's fickle. It's a child. That's why we practice meditation to gain a better relationships with the mind.
The Moon in Gemini wants to communicate, but at the Thanksgiving dinner table? Likely, there are varying POV's and politic might be a sensitive subject. Fortunately astrology offers us some forewarning guidance before we sit down to eat.... just a *little* contentiousness with this Full Moon.
With the lineup in Sagittarius, people can often become self-righteous: "My POV is the TRUTH; your truth makes no sense." And with the Moon in Gemini, again, there are MANY ways to look at something.
There are a lot of versions of how Thanksgiving came to be. The version I prefer? This is a very controversial "holiday," that glorifies a whitewashed image of a meal shared between the Native American people and the settlers. We know what really happened. We remember when the government hosed the people at Standing Rock in the freezing cold at Thanksgiving, 2016...
Again, this is seems to be a Full Moon fraught with tension. Outbursts, frustration and anger are possible - if not because someone forgot the gravy at home (thanks Mercury retrograde and Neptune stationing direct fuzzying our focus) but because we disagree.
Perhaps we do our best to keep the debates as civil as possible. Shouting isn't very effective DIALOGUE. Once voices get loud, no sense can be made. Anger for anger's sake and then we lose track of what we were discussing in the first place! The key here is to COMMUNICATE, which includes listening, asking follow-up questions and trying to be kind, even when you don't agree. But also, do not shy away from expressing your viewpoints as well! Keep your head level, and maybe, just maybe, we can begin to understand one another a little better. What are the things we do agree on?
Love is always the answer,
But always speak your truth,
The Scorpio new moon is ruled by Mars in Aquarius - representing the democratic efforts to collectively strive toward a shared goal, or to selflessly serve the collective without asking for personal glory. Mars tightly conjoins dark goddess Lilith.
Lilith’s archetype varies on who you ask. But it’s my opinion that she has been grossly mislabeled. She is the antithesis of Patriarchy. She is a woman who prioritizes her pleasure, she is autonomous and she is wise. She has knowledge of herbalism, sacred sex magick and is primal AF. Her rising popularity parallels the women reclaiming themselves.
Black women influenced the most progressive of change in the polling booths yesterday. Women of color are RISING and it is so beautiful to see our WOC sisters more empowered spiritually and politically than ever. In a world where black mothers are most at risk of *dying* during childbirth, have the lowest life expectancy and are the most discriminated against - and these women are flipping the vote! Change IS happening. (Love, respect and gratitude.)
Like Persephone entering the underworld to find her power and emerge as Queen, we too can gather power from these dark times to RISE.
A piece of Jupiter’s final message from Scorpio: Look at all we’ve done, but don’t give up because there’s still so much more work to do...
...until the next time Jupiter returns to Scorpio in 11 years.
BIG CHANGES THIS WEEK
In this Together,
Sometimes a good Uranus transit can push people to make bold moves. In a heartbeat.
They can't take it anymore; the pressure has built, and in an instant, the decision is made.
That's what happened in Cleveland this week when two head coaches were fired within 24 hours: the Browns' Hue Jackson and for the Cavs, Tyronn Lue, whose coaching led the 2016 Championship.
As soon as I heard about this, I immediately thought of the recent Full Moon conjunct Uranus. Uranus is the planet often involved in breakups, breakdowns and breakthroughs. Uranus operates so swiftly, you don't always see it coming; it can sometimes come as a shock. Did anyone see this coming? Yes. Sort of. The Cavs have not won a game yet this season, and the Browns - well, they're the Browns. But both coaches fired within 24 hours?! Now that's a shock!
Has this ever happened before? Two coaches in one city fired within 24 hours?
Actually yes, but more on that in a moment. ..
To the left is the Taurus Full Moon chart of 10/24/2018 cast for Cleveland Ohio. The full moon is angular, which makes it a bigger deal, and Taurus rules the 5th house of sports.
Within the 5th house is Juno, asteroid governing contracts. Juno is at the final degree of the sign, which represents ENDINGS. She is retrograde, suggesting previous knowledge that the ending was near. With the Brown's impressive losing streak and Lebron leaving the Cavs, endings were somewhat expected.
We don't need astrology to tell us that finances were the major influence in these decisions, but it shows up prominently in the chart with the full moon opposing Venus retrograde. Venus rules finances and in Scorpio, it's all about the exchange. "I pay you, you win the games; you don't win the games, you lose your job."
Venus also rules relationships; opposite Uranus, this often indicates breakups. Indeed. People are parting ways in Cleveland this week.
The one other time this happened?
December 26, 2002. Atlanta Georgia. (Source: News 5 Cleveland)
I immediately wondered if Uranus would be involved, and I was not disappointed.
There are a lot of similarities here.
To the left is a chart of the lunar eclipse of 11/19/2002, cast for Atlanta, Georgia. The lunar eclipse occurred in the sign of TAURUS, with the Sun in the 5th house of sports. And to clarify, a lunar eclipse is a full moon on steroids. So here we have the same lunation repeating itself with similar themes.
Eclipses are powerful agents of change whose effects can last for months after. Here, we get a double shot of change with Uranus squaring the eclipse from the 8th house - often associated with endings.
Another similarity is that VENUS IS RETROGRADE IN SCORPIO. The little "s" next to the Venus glyph indicates that she is stationary - ending retrograde motion and preparing to resume direct. Here again, Taurus is ruled by Venus in Scorpio, reiterating themes of exchange. "I pay you, you win the games; you don't win the games, you lose your job."
On December 26th, 2002 when both coaches were terminated, the Moon triggered the eclipse degree.
In both cases of 2 coaches in one city fired within 24 hours: Taurus Full Moon/eclipse, Venus retrograde in Scorpio and a strong involvement of Uranus. Boom.
And that is why I love astrology....
All the love,
The Taurus Full Moon is usually a pleasant lunation, offering us a couple weeks of enjoyment. Taurus rules the senses - we admire the sights and smells of the changing leaves, the warm sun and the cool breeze, before slipping into our fuzzy slippers and enjoying some chai tea...
However with Uranus, the planet of disruptions and awakenings now in the sign of Taurus, the usual comfortable pace of Taurus is now electrified like a mechanical bull.
I heard from quite a few Taurus natives that this Full Moon was particularly disruptive and chaotic. Yes, Taurus, this is now your time to get out of your comfort zone. It's time you awaken to more of your potential and reach a little further.
But for all of us, this Full Moon may have gifted us moments of clarity. Like lightning, a sudden burst of illumination jolts our consciousness. I know I had a couple of those! But I also felt like a live wire at times - anxious, energized and my mind racing.
With Uranus, these sensations are normal, though for some people who are already on edge, this can be the very thing that pushes them over the edge. Sadly in the news this week, we witnessed multiple acts of terrorism and violence. Lives were lost due to gun violence in synagogues and supermarkets, while suspicious packages were delivered to politicians. Uranus conjunct the full moon is capable of pushing people to extremes; the erratic flux of energy can be too much for a person who is already stressed beyond the max.
The world we live in is a new kind of stressful that the human body has never experienced before, and honestly without proper support for our nervous systems, it's a wonder we're all keeping up as well as we are. Sometimes it's reaching a breaking point that allows us a breakthrough moment. But for most of us, hopefully this full moon offers us the nudge we need to break out of a stagnant situation, speak our true or bravely pursue something.
The next layer up for review begins now with Venus retrograde - highlighting our priorities, preferences, relationships, values, love, beauty and energetic investments.
Mars and Venus together deal with our desires, priorities and preferences; what we want and how we go after it.
During this second half of 2018, WE ARE GETTING CLEAR on what we truly want. This is very important as we head into the next year. 2019/2020 place a HUGE emphasis on the Capricorn house in our charts, which is where we build important and long-lasting supportive structures in our lives. These personal planet retrogrades help us to get clear on what we WANT before we cement.
In the video above, we take a look at how these Mars and Venus retrogrades are intimately entwined, the basics of Venus Retrograde, as well as how it shows up in Scorpio and Libra - both personally and collectively.

I take my retrogrades seriously.
Back in June, I wrote, “Take a look around because things are going to look very different by the end of the summer.” Did that prove to be true in your own life? It certainly has for me. If you've been a long time follower, you’ll notice that things look a little different around here.
BIG CHANGES ARE UNDERWAY.
Astrology helps us understand that life moves in seasons and cycles.
Life is always changing - in small or large doses.
Writing the monthly astrology report has been my sadhana for the last 3 years. When I first launched AstroLuminus.com, I decided that it didn’t matter if anyone read my blog or not – it would be a practice for me to strengthen my skills as an astrologer. It’s been a wonderful experience but it's time for me to let go (for the time being) and focus on growing my practice in new ways.
The retrogrades and eclipses have offered me invaluable insight as to how I can grow professionally and personally. Thus, I have decided to take the remainder of the year to focus on more creative pursuits (as opposed to linear) in preparation for a web relaunch in the new year. I will continue to post (sporadically, however, for the remainder of the year I will be focusing on my final level of astrological certification as well as giving predictions for 2019 as the keynote speaker for LCAA's holiday party.
Since launching AstroLuminus in June 2015, I have kept up with the monthly reports, given hundreds of readings, looked at thousands of charts, completed two additional levels of astrological certification to become an NCGR-PAA Level III practitioner; I have been published over 30 times writing horoscopes for BonAppetit.com, Domino.com, as well as contributing pieces to various astrological publications; I have offered 3 lectures to my local organization (LCAA), as well as a lunch lecture at the Great Lakes Astrology Conference in Michigan. On top of all of these professional leaps, I recently got married. Whew! (did I mention I also have a full time job?)
Speaking of partnerships, my final level of certification involves demonstrating one's consultation skills in a one-on-one dialogue. Wherever you have Capricorn in your chart is going to get ALL the action next year. Capricorn rules my 7th house of partnerships, so I am doing my best to get a head start by un-busying myself and making more time to connect with people.
I am grateful to all of you who have followed along, supported my work and reached out to express their appreciation. I love writing and I love the monthly forecasts and look forward to resuming in the future. But in the meantime, follow me on Instagram @catherine_luminus or on Facebook at Catherine Urban, Astrologer for more spontaneous astrology posts!
Thanks for journeying with me and please stay tuned!
Love, Catherine Urban, NCGR-PAA III
Uranus is the planet who insists on differentiation. Would ya just look at him? Spinning on his side?! Typical. Uranus is the planet who resists conformity, walking in line and following pointless orders. Uranus is the one who challenges, continues to question and refuses to be fenced in.
How many of you have gotten a wake-up call in the past few weeks?
We have a whole montage of planetary aspects ensuring that we all get one - big or small.
But get ready for another round...
To recap, Eclipse season is still not over. When the steady flow of light gets disrupted, we are able to see things in a totally new way. "I never saw it that way before....OMG!"
Of all the retrograde planets, MARS RETROGRADE is by far the most important. We are reevaluating the ways DESIRE and PASSION are playing out in our lives. Are you happy with your work, relationships, lifestyle? Are you following your dreams to the degree that you should? Mars retrograde is CLARIFYING. If you've been wanting something for a long time, but you've been putting it off, NOW is when you'll go after it.
But Mars is not working alone. Oh no. Mars has been square to Uranus through much of the retrograde and now this combo is going to be royally activated once Uranus stations retrograde on August 7th.
...these are all symptoms of the Mars-Uranus energy. Though it probably goes without saying that some of these manifestations might be more constructive than the others. But the point is to honor this energy if it shows up - in the way that serves you the most.
Uranus is the AWAKENER. *ERRRRRR!!!!* are you paying attention????
Uranus teaming up with Mars retrograde can bring sweeping changes into our lives (if need be). If you are a regular reader of my column, you'll notice that things are looking a little different around here - and the changes ain't over yet. BIG CHANGES are going on behind the scenes on my end. And until Mars goes forward, I will continue to gain clarity on how I'd like to move forward. You all might be doing the same.
I wish you all the freedom you deserve to live in even more alignment with you truth. May this week's planetary shifts serve you greatly!
All the Blessings,
